Ingredients

Scale
  • Chocolate Cake:
    • 1 box of chocolate cake mix (or homemade recipe)
    • Ingredients required to prepare the cake (e.g., eggs, oil, and water)
  • Oreo Cookies:
    • 1520 Oreo cookies (crumbled)
  • Cream Cheese Frosting:
    • 1 cup cream cheese (softened)
    • 2 cups powdered sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Coating:
    • 2 cups white chocolate or candy melts
    • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil (optional, to thin the coating)
  • Cake Pop Sticks:
    • 1216 sticks (depending on number of cake pops)
  • Sprinkles (optional):
    • Decorative sprinkles or extra crushed Oreos for coating

Instructions

  1. Bake the Chocolate Cake:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the chocolate cake according to the package instructions. Once baked, let the cake cool completely.
  2. Crumble the Cake:
Once the cake has cooled, crumble it into fine crumbs using your hands or a food processor.
  3. Prepare the Cake Pop Mixture:
Crush the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs and mix them into the crumbled cake. Gradually add cream cheese frosting, mixing until the mixture holds together but isn’t too wet.
  4. Form the Cake Balls:
Scoop out 1-inch portions of the mixture and roll them into smooth balls. Place them on a lined baking sheet.
  5. Chill the Cake Balls:
Freeze the cake balls for 15-20 minutes to firm them up before dipping them in chocolate.
  6. Melt the Coating:
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate or candy melts in 30-second intervals, stirring in between. If the coating is too thick, add a teaspoon of vegetable oil to thin it out.
  7. Dip the Cake Pops:
Dip each cake pop stick into the melted chocolate and insert it into a cake ball to help it stay in place. Then dip the entire ball into the melted chocolate, tapping off any excess coating.
  8. Decorate the Cake Pops:
While the coating is still wet, sprinkle crushed Oreo cookies or decorative sprinkles on top. Stand the cake pops upright in a foam block or cake pop stand to set.

Notes

  • You can easily customize the decoration with different colored sprinkles or even drizzles of caramel for added flair.
  • For a smoother frosting, add a bit of heavy cream to the cream cheese frosting.
  • These cake pops can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerated for up to 1 week.
