Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup boiled vegetables (peas, spinach, or carrots)
- 1/2 cup protein (shrimp, fish fillets, or egg yolk)
- 1 tbsp spirulina powder (optional, for extra nutrition)
- 1–2 tbsp gelatin or agar (to bind the food)
- 1/4 cup water (to blend ingredients into a paste)
Instructions
- Boil your vegetables (peas, spinach, or carrots) until soft. Blend them into a smooth paste.
- Add your chosen protein (shrimp, fish fillets, or egg yolk) to the blender and mix until combined. Add a little water if necessary to help the mixture blend into a paste-like consistency.
- Stir in the spirulina powder (if using) for an added boost of nutrients.
- In a saucepan, heat the mixture over medium heat. Once it starts to thicken, add gelatin or agar and stir until dissolved.
- Pour the mixture onto a flat tray or into molds, smoothing it into an even layer.
- Let the mixture cool at room temperature before transferring it to the refrigerator to set for several hours.
- Once set, cut the hardened mixture into small, fish-sized portions.
- Store the portions in an airtight container in the freezer to maintain freshness. Thaw portions as needed before feeding.
Notes
- For herbivorous fish like guppies, you can increase the proportion of vegetables and remove the animal protein.
- For carnivorous fish, focus more on proteins like shrimp and fish fillets, and consider adding a small amount of garlic for flavor.
- Always ensure that the ingredients used are fresh and free of harmful chemicals or pesticides.
- If you want to experiment with textures, you can blend some ingredients coarsely for a chunkier food option or make it more pasty for easier consumption.
